DSMG has had a chapter about the BNI accepted for publication in a forthcoming book, edited by Dr Bradley Jorgensen under the title of Handbook of Sense of Place (Edward Elgar Publisher).

Contesting heritage values in urban cultural landscapes challenges the ways that government agencies, urban planners and developers who pay lip service to First Nations when transforming urban Country are part of a continuing colonisation of Dharug Nura. Our continued experience as we tackle the task of protecting the BNI from the adverse impacts of the Richmond Road Upgrade Project of Transport for NSW, while trying to to heal damage done in previous years, reinforces the message of this chapter.

While we value the BNI's deep Dharug heritage, the formal listing values its links to it colonial history.

As we continue the journey of healing and truth telling, we welcome your comments on the chapter, which was accepted for publication in May 2025.
