Truth Telling and Healing for Dharug Ngurra

At the DSMG Board Retreat in August 2025, held at the beautiful Castlereagh Conference Centre, the Board reviewed DSMG's performance against the Strategic Plan 2021-2025 and developed a new Strategic Plan for the next five years focusing on the need for truth telling and healing at the BNI.

The Strategic Plan sets the priorities, assesses the risks and consider opportunities related to DSMG's important role as custodian for the Blacktown Native Institution for the Dharug community.

Priority Outcomes for 2025-2030

Priority outcomes being pursued over the next five years are:

  • Enhanced site security and infrastructure, making the BNI site accessible and welcoming.

  • Initial ecological restoration efforts, laying the groundwork for long-term biodiversity and habitat health.

  • Establishment of a permanent Dance Circle, facilitating cultural events and gatherings.

  • Development and initiation of cultural programming, fostering community engagement and cultural appreciation.

  • Developing comprehensive business cases for:

(a) construction of the Dharug Culture Centre and

(b) long-term site development, ensuring sustainability and future funding.

  • Continuing to refine and build the company’s capacity to receive, hold, manage and care for Dharug Ngurra and to return it to Dharug care and ownership.

DSMG's Consistent Program Themes

Our work continues to be organised around our four themes:

  • Caring for Country,

  • Caring for Culture,

  • Caring for Community. and

  • Caring for the Company.

Following our success in securing funds in 2024-2025, we will be working towards delivering activities on the site, continuing environmental work, and progressing towards the long-anticipated Dharug Culture Centre. Our priority is always protecting and healing the BNI and the Richmond Road Upgrade Project means that site protection will take priority n all our dealings with Transport for NSW.
